New Kauto Administrative Area neglect in remote Eastern Equatoria

On June 18, 2025, the government of Eastern Equatoria State announced the creation of the Kauto Administrative Area, located in the extreme southeastern part of South Sudan, bordering both Kenya and Ethiopia. Kauto historically suffered from severe isolation and a lack of essential services delivery and government presence in remote areas. The neglected part of Kapoeta East County has long cut off from vital services such as healthcare, education, and security.
