South Sudan’s Blind Football Team is making its international debut at the IBSA African Division Two Championship in Uganda, facing Uganda, Senegal, and Zimbabwe from October 25–30, 2025.
The South Sudan Blind Football Team is proudly participating in the African Division Two Blind Football Championship, held in Uganda from October 25th to 30th, 2025. Competing alongside teams from Uganda, Senegal, and Zimbabwe, this marks a historic milestone for persons with disabilities in South Sudan.
Blind Football in South Sudan has been significantly promoted by Light for the World, an international organization that has long supported disability inclusion in the country. Their efforts have laid the foundation for this momentous achievement.
In support of this initiative, Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) has financed the team’s transportation from Juba to Kampala and back.
CEPO’s Executive Director, Mr. Edmund Yakani, expressed pride in the team and extended heartfelt wishes for their success. He emphasized CEPO’s confidence that the team will deliver inspiring results for South Sudan and the world.
This championship is more than just a sporting event—it is a powerful demonstration of inclusion, creativity, and innovation. Supporting the meaningful participation of persons with disabilities in all aspects of society is essential for building an inclusive nation. Blind Football deserves equal support from the government and all stakeholders, just like any other sport, without discrimination or favoritism.
Turning the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) into action means supporting events like this—where persons with disabilities showcase their talents and represent their country with pride.
