Juba -Status of Women Initiative Organized a two-day workshop, 24th—25th June 2025, supported by UNMISS Human Rights Division, the workshop discussed Women’s Rights Campaign under the theme: “Enhancing the roles of women human rights defenders in political participation”. 

The workshop brought 58 participants from various women’s organizations, institutions, women’s Leagues, Associations, groups, and National and State Election Commission, Executive Director of CEPO, Partner UNMISS Human Rights Division, Deputy Chairperson for Specialized Standing Committee on Gender at TNLA.

Among the main discussion was the importance of women’s representation in government, highlighting its impact on policy change and grassroots empowerment, alongside the need for effective implementation of existing policies. The Maputo Protocol, ratified on February 24th, was referenced regarding women’s electoral rights, though it remains unimplemented. The meeting concluded with a consensus on prioritizing women’s involvement in rights discussions and capacity-building initiatives.

The objective of the workshop

  1. To increase dialogue and knowledge on women rights and participation in elections
  2. To equip women with advocacy skill for enforcement of women rights in elections
  3. To establish Women Elections Rights Campaign (WERC).
